New Writing Station~In Action!

I FINALLY got this bad boy finished! I am beyond excited & so are my students. We.are.obsessed! This writing station has been a work in progress….for a year! I started it at the end of last year to spice up our writing center. I knew I wanted some kind of display but I didn’t know how my space was going to work out in my new classroom so I waited. Since I didn’t know what my space situation was, I used binders for my organization.

 This is more of a grab & go option. Sometimes they would take the binders to their desk or just sit on the floor with a clipboard. I used a poly folder inside of the binder that contained copies of the writing station paper. If there was sheets that went with the station I also included those for their reference.

For those that do not have an extra bulletin board or dry erase board space this is another display option. I included 2 different letter sets that spell out “write”. Holy cuteness, right? This is basically the same idea as the one I use except this is more portable, which I like. If my students are too far from the board they can grab this tri-fold and take it with them. 
As I stated above, I would use Velcro dots to use for display purposes. This will make it super easy to change out stations when needed.

This came from Stacey over at Teaching Ever After. She prefers to use grab and go file folders for the students to use at their desk. These would also be great after a station is “retired” but the students still ask for it. Once you get them laminated then the students can just use a dry erase marker over and over.

I have been getting loads of emails about the writing station organizer I use. I purchased this at Target (online only). The quality is absolutely incredible & the students are able to read the label & quickly grab their sheet independently. If you prefer using Amazon, you can check it out here. I put magnet strips on the back of my labels for this. It’s easy to switch the labels in and out as I switch stations.

Here is my display that I chose. You can see I have 9 stations going at once. I do a mini lesson for each station before it is displayed. If I see they are struggling, then we will do it together as a class first.

Here is just a peek at some of the options that are included. EACH station comes with a full color sample page. I also included a 1/4 size page in case you display on a board like I am doing. I printed all these pages out on card stock & then laminated each for durability..of course.

Here is a peek and some of the black & white pages that are included. This writing station is 185 pages so I couldn’t include everything. I got a little carried away, but that is how I roll. 
This ULTIMATE WRITING STATION is part 1 of 2. I am not promising when part 2 will come out. My goal is to get it finished this summer so we can have it for back to school time.

  5. This just could not be any cuter! I love all the colorful graphics. It would go perfect with my room decor. But my favorite part are your writing categories. My first graders love anything technology related, and they would love the Facebook, Text Me and email writing.   7. This would be a great addition to any Daily 5 classroom for work on writing. I love that you included current types of writing such as text and Facebook. I don't think my students think of those as forms of writing. I would love to add this to my room. It has several options that I think makes the product more

  11. I love this product! You put so much work into it and I know my children would get lots of use out of all the different writing activities! I sure could use these to help with my writing centers! I am in desperate need! I've got them on my wish list, so I'll be saving up to get them!

  17. Authentic writing is a must during writer's workshop. I especially LOVE the Facebook page. I may be late for the giveaway, but it is going straight to my most wanted wish list items.

  22. Oh, wow…. *jaw drop* (seriously in awe of your hard work and how absolutely stunning your writing center looks). Even more so, I'm bugged-eyed over how completely ORGANIZED you, and by extension, your students look. I struggle so much with keeping my writing center both engaging and realistically clean.   54. Mel, I am trying to redo my work on writing center and would love to use this. One thing I struggled with last year was keeping my students' work organized as they finished their writing, and I would like to work on that this next year. I am wondering how you go about this in your own class. I would like to have a system that keeps similar pieces of writing together and as the year progresses they can collect and compare their work like a portfolio.I am having a difficult time coming up with ideas on how to do that with this product. Any suggestions would be great!
