Mel D has been working her big little behind off creating more Candy Land games. I’ve had several requests and now have 18 games with one being FREE!
I use these games several times a week in Work Work during Daily 5 & also use them during RTI as well. I use the Dolch pre-primer & primer games with my group that is still struggling with sight words. This makes it fun for them & they absolutely love it! It’s funny how you make something with a familiar game board and suddenly they are obsessed with learning their sight words. This by far has been my best creation for my little nuggets.

This is my nuggets students playing my Nonsense Word Candy Land game. I never realized how hard this concept was until I gave the Dibels test this year. It’s our first year & oh my do they need help with this. It’s almost as if they freeze when they see the word because they know it’s not “real” & they can’t spit it out. I bet you just got a nice visual of your own nuggets doing the same thing, am I right? The scores in my class were HORRIBLE so I needed to help them overcome this “freeze”.
I created two versions of this game since we will need the practice throughout the year. This version includes the following nonsense word patterns: all short vowels, all long vowels, blends & digraphs!
The 2nd Nonsense word game includes the following word patterns: double final consonants, suffix endings, long e (ee, ea, e_e), long a (ai, ay), final blends, long o (oa, ow), OO, EW, U_E, OU, long i (ie, igh), OU, OW, Y endings, & triple clusters.
This game contains Fry’s first 100 sight words. I still have students that struggle with sight words. Whether they came from a different district or not they still must know these words. Their scores have drastically improved & they have become much better readers since I incorporated these sight word games into the rotation.
I use the first sight word game with the kiddos that are struggling with kindergarten sight words & the next several games are used with my on-level & advanced kiddos.
I had some requests for Dolch words so here you go…………………
Let me know if you would like me to make 2nd grade Dolch words & I will get right on it.
This is my BIGGEST game yet & includes the following digraphs: WH, TCH, CH, PH, TH, CK & SH!
This game includes 18 word cards for each vowel! If your students are any thing like mine they S.T.R.U.G.G.L.E with a capital S with vowels…short and long.
This is my 2nd BIGGEST game yet & includes the following blends: R-Blends (br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr), S-Blends (sc, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, sw), L-Blends (bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl)!
This game was a NIGHTMARE to make! But I got it done so check it out by clicking on the picture.
This game includes 18 word cards for “AR” & “OR” and 9 each for “IR”, “ER”, & “UR”!
This is a math center/station game I just created to use with my first grade class. I haven’t officially started Daily 5 Math BUT I want to be prepared for when I do start next year. This addition game can be used in a Math station or during Daily 5 math. Math facts to 12! What a great way for your little nuggets to practice those dreaded math facts & have fun at the same time! It’s worth the $3.00 investment, your kids will love it! And now for a subtraction game.
I know you’re wondering…I thought she said something was for FREE! I wanted to let you know how thankful I am for all of you. All I ask is that you follow my growing TPT store and download this game to try it with your class. I promise you will be amazed at how much fun they have & whoopsie their learning at the same time…I’m sooo sneaky that way ๐
Since I made soooo many games I had to figure out a way to keep all these cards organized so I made labels…OF COURSE.
This is only 6 of my games but you get the picture, right?
Click on the pic to grab your Candy Land organizational labels for FREE!
Since I am in such a thankful mood, the first 3 comments I get will get 5 Candy Land games for FREE! LEAVE ME YOUR EMAIL & THE 5 GAMES YOU WANT & THEY ARE YOURS FOR FREE JUST FOR BEING A FAITHFUL FOLLOWER!

Dont want to sound ignorant but do the games come with instructions??? Also they read the word on the card in order to go to the spot like in the game right.
Mel D says
@love2teach yes if you look at the contractions freebie it says to follow Candy Land rules. They read the words in order to move to the specified spot.
love2teach says
Ok I will use it in small groups first but then when they use it in an independent center they need to read the words and until they master them they need to be in a group where at least one child knows the words to correct them right?
Mel D says
@love2teach…exactly. I usually do the "ask 3 before me" & someone usually knows the word. You can use it as a review game as well. I usually have 3-4 student per game board with 2 boards in word work during Daily 5.

Hi there! I love these! I just purchased a bunch of game boards on Black Friday for super cheap and was planning on making the games all by hand….then I found this! Amazing! I plan on purchasing at least four games. Would you be willing to make one with numbers to 100 and maybe another with shapes? I would definately be willing to buy them. I teach kindergarten, so need to keep it pretty simple…number recognition to 100 would be great for my higher students. Let me know! Thanks!!
Mel D says
I will add it to my list. I have about 12 requests right now. I will include this one in there & hopefully it will be posted by the weekend. :o) Mel

I'm studying to be a special education teacher & in my Diagnostic Reading class last semester, my teacher talked about Dibels & she hates it! But I like the Candyland idea.
Prairie Teacher says
My school is going to try Dibels this year…why does that teacher hate it?
Prairie Teacher says
This looks incredible! I teach k-2 and I'd love to try some of these!
Could I try: Dolch 1st grade sight words, digraph game, long vowel game, short vowel game, and blend game?
Thanks SO much!
