I am hosting Chapter 1 (Introduction) of the Daily 5 (D5) by the brilliant sisters' Gail Boushey & Joan Moser. I read this book last summer to prepare myself for the 90 minute literacy block our district was implementing. I had read about the D5 in blogland but didn't think much of it because I never educated myself about it. Let me tell you, I am so glad I did! I am absolutely IN LOVE with the D5! I implemented it this school year & it blew.... my..... mind. One of the MOST important things about this program is doing it the correct way & a few teachers learned that the hard way. The sisters developed this program as a way to change the atmosphere of their classrooms from micro-managing students, to creating routines and procedures that fostered independent literacy behaviors that were ingrained to the point of being habits. Independent??? Really? First graders?? Yeah...right! That is truly what I thought after reading the first chapter. After … [Read more...] about Daily 5 Book Study: Chapter 1
My Furry Babies & Daily 5 Book Study Bookmark
I have a problem. I am completely in my summer vampire sleep patterns....again. It's not pretty. Especially for those around me...including my furry babies. Although they are right up with me, of course. They are EVERYWHERE I go friends. If I go to the bathroom I have 6 eyeballs staring at me which makes me very uncomfortable. They are no longer welcome in the bathroom anymore. When I wake up at 2, roll over, there is Big B. He lays there, like a human....on a pillow and everything. Sorry for the dark picture but he was so close to me his hot breath woke me up. Isn't he precious? We call him Big Boy, Big B, Big Head, Big Help, Pooper, Chunk....are you noticing a pattern? His name is Bentley, he is 5 years old & is my only boy.....he weighs in @ a whopping 145 lbs! I know, I know he is overweight. I like to say he is "big-boned" & has a very slow metabolism like his mommy. Love him! … [Read more...] about My Furry Babies & Daily 5 Book Study Bookmark

Learning Resources Giveaway & Daily 5 News!
I received the Easi-Speak Digital Microphone from Learning Resources to review. The first thing I fell in love with is the USB capability with NO BATTERIES REQUIRED....yay! It's very lightweight, easy to use, & portable. The first thing I did was pretend I was a Channel 7 Chicago news weather forecaster during calendar. The kids L.O.V.E.D this & made the usual boring lively calendar so much more fun. This has helped my shy little nuggets speak up in more ways than one. I always do a HUGE Dr. Seuss unit and group my students with their "Seuss Partners". After they practice reading it a few times I let them record each other with the Easi-Speak Microphone & then they listened to themselves. This handy little microphone is basically a wireless recorder. After demonstrating one time my students were able to independently record & listen. Three groups would "record" a day & then listen to themselves & make suggestions. This worked … [Read more...] about Learning Resources Giveaway & Daily 5 News!
