I am so excited to share what we did at school today. First I googled Veterans Day PPT & found a fantastic presentation for my kiddos! This sparked major conversation. I heard all about uncles, grandfather's etc. who serve or have served our country. I am truly amazed what they came up with in their writing. This teacher is very impressed! We have a HUGE Veterans Day breakfast & our 3rd graders put on a performance. It's a really nice event for our local veterans. I know my little nuggets will put a HUGE smile on their faces when they read these in our hallway. I hope you can use it & honor our American heroes! … [Read more...] about Veterans Day Freebie for Little Learners

Holy Fall-o-Ween! I am beyond busy people. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL FALL BREAK! Thank you for the much needed one day off. We used to have two...sadsville :o( Do you feel the burn-out like I do?? We all need a break. Anywho, I was obsessed last weekend with coming up with student & co-worker gifts. I have some students that don't celebrate Halloween so that is where the Fall-O-Ween (is that a word) came in to play. I don't know about you but chocolate ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. This time of year all the teachers are burned out & even the students are. We've been in school for almost 50 days...but who's counting. This also gave me an excuse to make something with all the Melonheadz graphics I own. I.CAN'T.STOP. I am obsessed with anything & everything she makes!!!! Daily 5 Launch & Lakeshore Learning at Home
I never thought we were going to reach our 15 minute stamina....EVER! I did not start Daily 5 until the second week of school. I am teaching high ability first graders this year & I let them choose their books on the first day. I am going to be honest..... I let them loose in the library before I knew their reading level. I don't always like to look at their previous reading levels, I want to find out their ability on my own. I was pleasantly surprised how excited they were to choose books. My classroom library is huge & they are in love. I never thought I'd have to say "Are you active listening when your nose is in a book?" Seriously....I have to say that several times a day. I showed them how our library is organized by level. I am HUGE on pushing AR & all of my books are AR books in the library. If they are not, they don't make the cut. I had to make sure they only were taking 5-7 books. I do allow them to keep a chapter … [Read more...] about Daily 5 Launch & Lakeshore Learning at Home
